Our Mission

NewMediaLiteracy.org is a not-for-profit enterprise with the ambitious goal of cultivating deep literacy among all Internet-users. Unlike computer literacy groups, this organization does not champion "a computer in every classroom." Instead, we define literacy as something more than the technical skills needed to perform tasks using computers and networked information. New media literacy encompasses the critical faculties needed to evaluate, criticize, and learn from those resources.

We encourage literate use of new media by providing public forums and learning tools that individuals and communities can use to research, reflect on, and share their experiences of the new media landscape. NewMediaLiteracy.org publishes all its learning materials free to the public in an effort to further understanding of social, technological, and philosophical issues.
